Robert E. Lee and Ashton Culver traveled all the way to Oxford, Mississippi which was a total of 596 miles round trip from Carbondale, Illinois. They visited the Lyceum which is a building on campus at the University of Mississippi. During the Civil War it served as a hospital for the Union and Confederate soldiers.
